I haven't written in like ages !! Anyway, let's see ... changes ... changes .... hmmmm searching thru the mess in my head. I guess the most notable change has been my switch over to SGL ( Sorcerer Gnu Linux ) as my distro. I took a whole 2 months to get the dang thing up ! Ha ! Ha ! At one point most of the people on the list respected this Malaysian dude for his tenacity. I don't really see what was the big deal. SGL just had most of the thing I wanted in a linux distribution. I more or less during that time installed sorcerer like about 20 times ! Phew ! During this time too I began to learn the finer points of *not* reinstalling everytime. I guess what I have in tenacity i sure make up in terms of stupidity. Even now I am still amazed at how the 'ang mou''s can just take apart the software in their computers and just edit them to their whim and fancy and actually make them work later. The taking apart thingy I have most definitely mastered, it's just the making it work part that baffles me ! This is one skill that I definitely have to master. I still can't grasp the concept to transforming requirements to programming concepts the way it comes so naturally to these dudes in the channel.
While at one time I thought that gentoo was really cool, SGL has open my eyes on a whole new world of what a really cool linux distro could and should be. My history with this distro has been long actually.I fooled around with it as far back as when i was using gentoo. That time i gave up because it had some stupid bugs in it. In retrospect, if I were to turn back time now and I was in the same place I wonder if I would have done the same thing .... maybe maybe not. I have just had a thought. I am just going to use this blog to keep track of the tremendous amount of changes that sorcerer has been going through. I have this bad habit of reinstalling my hdd and loosing pieces of paper i stuff in my bag, pockets ... so i guess this is a good place. Some of the changes that has happened to SGL. These changes are all happening because the creator ( Kyle ) has been busy changing stuff.. I guess it's still pretty unstable. But the people on the channel has been helping me out. I feel a close camaderie with these dudes on the channel ( bfinch,crass292,Jiggs ). These people are like half a world apart from me but I feel a closeness to them. Although there are less than 10 people on the channel at one time, but they are always willing to help *when they are around* :
1. SGL has changed the place it stores it's source files from /var/spool/sorcery to /var/cache/sources/ . At this point the first time I encountered this change I was like wringing my balls hard trying to firgure out why my newly installed sorcerer box kept on trying to download source files that I already put in /var/spool/sorcery !!
2. Changed the place it keeps the options that you enter through the sorcery interface from /etc/sorcery/local.config to /var/log/sorcery/config/DEFAULT/3.2.1 and /var/log/sorcery/DEFAULT/2.95.3. I bashed myself on the head silly trying to figure out where the options I had entered gone through initially. This is considering that the box has a valid gcc installed. This can now be seen using the sorcery interface which it will list on top of the interface the gcc that you have installed
